About senegal

The Republic of Senegal is a country in West Africa. It lays claim to roughly 13 million people, 76,000 square miles and is also home to the most western point of Africa; the Cap-Vert Peninsula (which is also home to the capital city of Dakar). French is the national language of Senegal primarily due to its capital city of Dakar being a French colony from the 19th century until the country achieved its own independent state in the 1960’s. However; from city to city native languages still prevail. Its cuisine is a fusion of traditional African, Muslim and French dishes relying heavily on local crops such as rice, couscous, tomato, and peanuts.  The country also boasts a boisterous commercial fishing industry that provides Atlantic fish to itself and exports to many countries around the world.
